Author signings · through the season

In conversation at the counter.

We run signings through the year with Pembrokeshire writers and visiting Welsh authors. The bigger evenings sit upstairs once the toys are wheeled aside; the more intimate signings happen at the counter on the ground floor, with the books to hand.

Most signings are free to attend. For the larger evenings, follow Instagram or Facebook for the next date.

Y silff Gymraeg

The Welsh-language section.

A proper Cymraeg shelf at the back of the ground floor. Fiction, poetry, biography, and a dedicated children's area that is kept stocked through the school year. The kind of section most of the indies west of Cardiff treat as a token shelf; we treat it as the section it deserves to be.

Curation · what we are putting in the window

Three shelves we are stocking heavy this season.

For the harbour bench.
Sea-air pile

For the harbour bench.

A pile of paperbacks built for the bench above North Beach: short stories, salty crime, contemporary fiction that does not need a quiet room to land. Refreshed each week from the front shelves.

Coast Path & Preseli.
Path-walker’s shelf

Coast Path & Preseli.

Pembrokeshire Coast Path guides, every OS Explorer sheet for the county, walking-with-the-tide handbooks, Preseli ridge histories. The shelf people come in for before they set off from Amroth or Saundersfoot.

The Welsh-language children’s shelf.
Y silff Gymraeg

The Welsh-language children’s shelf.

A proper Welsh-language children’s section in the back, kept stocked through the school year. Picture books, early readers, Cymraeg activity books for the kids on holiday from north Wales and the Cynulliad-language schools.

The shop on Tudor Square · fifteen years on the same parade

Two directors, fifteen years on Tudor Square.

Michael Llewellyn Evans and Julie Griffiths Jones registered Tenby Bookshop (Tenby) Limited at Companies House on 31 January 2011. Both still in post fifteen years later. The shop itself sat on Tudor Square through the late 1990s and 2000s on the AOL email backbone that still routes the company's mailto to this day, so the bookshop pre-dates the limited company by some way.

Two floors of stock, open every day of the year, regular signings with Pembrokeshire authors, the Welsh-language section curated by both directors. A long-standing fixture on a parade of pastel cottages that Tenby is known for.

2014
The .wales top-level domain launches. The shop registers tenbybookshop.wales, putting a Welsh-coast independent on a Welsh-coast TLD before most of the Pembrokeshire high street.
2020s
The Big Jigs and Green Toys ranges take the upstairs floor; Welsh-language children’s books are expanded to a dedicated section; the Pembrokeshire-authors shelf grows year on year through in-store signings.
Today
Two floors of stock on Tudor Square, open every day of the year from 10am to 5pm, regular author signings, partner-listed on Hive and a National Book Tokens stockist.

The counter holds back signed copies and specialist stock that does not sit on the open shelves. If you are travelling for a specific title, phone the counter on 01834 843514 or email us the ISBN and we will check before you set off.

For a 24-hour order on a title in print, the title and author is enough. For school orders, reading-group sets or bulk gifts, drop us a line with a rough volume and we will come back with availability and a quote.
